Eating

Seafood is a must when in Oia, but as farming is also an important activity in the region, there are also excellent meats. Local fruit and vegetables thrive in the area’s unique climate so everything adds up to fine produce from sea and land making this a very appealing region for food-lovers.

O Peñasco: Renowned for its well-established cuisine based on top-quality ingredients and traditional slow-cooking. The caldeirada (stew) of fish and vegetables is wonderful as are their themed menus.

Porto dos Barcos: Well-known for its quality meats, fresh fish and shellfish. You can also ask for a simple sandwich, a slice of pizza or a ración (larger tapa style dish).

A Riña: A perfect place to eat quality food but in a more informal setting. Sandwiches, pizzas and simple dishes are on offer in this excellent meeting point. There are two big TV screens for watching sporting events.

A Camboa: Facing the Oia Monastery with wonderful views, it is an idyllic spot to enjoy good fresh fish, meats or raciones. It has an ample garden terrace overlooking the sea and monastery.

A Casa de Henriqueta: Situated in a large stone house in the picturesque streets of Arrabal in Oia. A warm, homely environment for trying their excellent fresh produce and elaborate dishes.

Aguncheiro: Homemade cuisine based on local produce in Porto, a little hamlet just a few metres away from the sea. Their shellfish rice dishes are definitely worth trying!
