The winner of the 2nd Cabeciña Beer Festival is an American Pale Ale (APA), brewed by Trisk-Ale. There were two other beers in the contest: a weissbier and a spelt variety of APA, both brewed by Vacaloura.
Trisk-Ale’s American Pale Ale won by majority of votes. This beer will now be named after O Rei Sol, (the Sun King), a homage to the legend linked to Cano dos Mouros hillfort.
Costa dos Castros now has two official beers, Rei Sol and Cervexa Cabeciña, the winner of last year’s beer festival, which is available on tap and in bottles in local bars and restaurants. The brewery Trisk-Ale, based in Nigrán, donates a percentage of the sales to the Costa dos Castros project.
Unfortunately, due to the rain we had to move the Festival from its original setting at Cabeciña hillfort to the community centre in Mougás. However, that didn’t stop up from having lots of fun, with traditional music and some bizarre fancy dresses! Click here to see some photos on our Facebook.
